New Talent

     So, I was the at Pier 39 the other night (tourist spot, I know) having dinner with my brother's friend and his mom. After dinner we decided to walk around a bit. Every few feet a different type of music is playing. Rave down by the guy who spray paints pictures, 50's walking past Johnny Rockets, and a guy playing Saxophone next to one of the fancier restaurants. Somewhere in-between all these, we heard this beautiful voice, thinking it was on a speaker. We soon realized that it was coming from a girl with just her guitar and a mic sitting on the side of the road.
    Her name is Selah Rauw. We saw her sitting with a sign in front asking everyone to help her out. She was raising money to get to LA to record a demo. We decided to help her out, of course. We have a soft spot for singer/songwriters. Something you don't think you'd hear down at the pier. I immediately friended her on facebook and went to her youtube channel. Here's a bit of her playing. A Beatle in the Park

        Last night I went to the Paul McCartney concert at AT&T park. In all the many concerts I've been to I've never attended one in an outdoor stadium. I've been to quite a few concerts venues that are outside, but never an outdoor sports stadium. It was a perfect setting for this type of concert. The weather wasn't too awful, but I did pack quite a few layers in case the unpredictable San Francisco weather decided to take a turn. The concert got to a late start, but Paul made up for it but playing for three hours straight, including 2 encores! (He is almost 70!) Not only was his voice on point, his band was amazing and showed such stage presence- his drummer was hilarious. The lighting and stage production was off the chain, including Paul's own pictures of his family, shots from Beatles Rock Band, and beautiful images. And of course fireworks during Live and Let Die, one of the many encore songs. My favorite part was when the entire audience sang the 'na na na na' part of 'Hey Jude'. If you ever have a chance to see him in concert, jump at it. One of the best concerts I've been to. 

Fashion + Music = Art

       I went to the San Francisco MOMA on Tuesday to check out the Calder to Wharhol exhibit that they are housing right now. It's a collection of artwork that Doris and Donald Fisher (the founders of Gap) has accumulated over the years. A lot of this work was previously housed in their corporate offices in San Francisco, but they wanted to share it with the public. Some of the pieces are just extraordinary and it's crazy to think this is just a taste of what they own. 
      While there, I discovered a sculpture by of Michael Jackson and Bubbles. Being the Michael obsessed fan that I am, I just had to have my picture taken with it. The only regret of the trip was not waiting in the mile long line for Blue Bottle Coffee. Possibly the best coffee I've ever tasted. The smell alone will attract any coffee- aholic.

Forgot to take note of these artists but was quite impressed with both. The first piece was floor to ceiling and it protruded from the wall at the bottom. The pictures depict images of current political topics. The piece on the bottom has many geometric shapes that I think depicts a jazz band. The red lips is the singer, the drums are to the right and the bass is to the left. What do you guys see?

Obsessed With...

Happiness is a New CD

          I love discovering new music. It makes me very very happy :) Today is my brother's birthday and he wanted to take a trip to Amoeba. (The best music store, ever!) So, yesterday I had to have my 'list' as my bother calls it, ready. So, I spent a couple hours online researching new artists (or new to me) and compiled my list. I brought home 6 new CD's and can't wait to listen to them all!


        One of the new CD's is by a band called Stornoway. A folk/pop band from England. The first minute I heard this song, I knew I wanted their entire CD.



     Another album I picked up is by Swedish duo First Aid Kit. Sisters who sing folk songs that are so beautiful. Their voices are amazing!



        The last new artist I will share with you is Marina and the Diamonds. Another export from England she's somewhere in-between Britney and Florence and the Machine. She makes pop music thats actually about something.

Amazing

         Everything about Lanvin's Resort 2011 line is nothing short of amazing. Everything is so elegant looking. If you look closely you can see designer Alber Elbaz peeking into one of the looks.
